Lake Dorogawa: a hidden gem in Kobe, Japan

Photograph of a wooden clubhouse nestled amongst trees by a lake.

A little way up the Rokko Mountains is the Kobe Municipal Arboretum. It's a beautiful, sprawling parkland that rightfully attracts countless visitors to enjoy nature. Before you get to it is a small park that's as beautiful and far less crowded.

Lake Dorogawa collects water off the mountain and holds it, ready to feed down into irrigation channels in the valleys below. There's a couple of cafes and some pleasant walks along the lakeside and off into the trees. It's also home to the "foreigner cemetery", which I guess is where I'm going to end up.

If you the Arboretum is a bit busy for your liking, then pop down the road. It's about a 20 minute walk.
