Update: new photographs added to my portrait portfolio

Black and white photograph of a black woman dancing

These come from one of my earliest portrait shoots. They feature a model then going by the name of “Black Phoenix”, with whom I spent a fun and productive couple of hours in a studio.

To get these images I asked her to dance, and shot away for a minute or two. There was no direction to “do this” or “pose like that”. It was a candid few dozen shots that captured some of the energy coming off of her during the shoot.

Relaxing subjects by asking them to do something where they can forget the camera is a technique I still use.
