Society is facing radical change in the face of Artificial Intelligence. These are some of my posts, thoughts and reflections on 25+ years tracking the technology.
When I wrote my article on why we ask too much of AI, I wanted an image that reflected the thoughtful, if chaotic prose. I thought it appropriate to ask Bing Create to come up with the hero image that went with it.
What it offered wasn't particularly inspiring. Hands are a particular weakness of Generative AI, and something of an [keep reading...]

The July '23 issue of Glamour in Bulgaria features Lisa Opie in a shocking pink Barbie inspired outfit. Except it's a photo that was never taken. Instead it was generated in a machine.
As I understand it, Opie supplied a tonne of photos, which were used to train an AI and prompted to generate images. These were then vetted (check the hands - [keep reading...]

Got sent a link to a "look book" on YouTube with a "what do you think?" TBH, it isn't my thing but I went had a look anyway.
On my phone I knew there was something off, but couldn't put my finger on it and didn't want to be rude in case someone was using a filter. It was when I went to YT on my BFO 4K monitor [keep reading...]
Some of the negative effects of ChatGPT and its ilk have been felt in the fiction world. Clarkesworld, a publisher of short story science-fiction, had to close its submissions after being bombarded with AI generated pitches. This is quite the blow to those hoping to "make it" in the sci-fi world as it was one of the few publishers to pay authors.
It's not unexpected. "Get rich quick" scams arrive within hours of any new technology being launched. While there's no doubt it has some uses for authors looking for inspiration, we now have [keep reading...]
